A Few Words From Our Race Director
On behalf of the 2017 Hawaiian Airlines Moloka'i Hoe Committee, we would like to welcome you to the beautiful Hawaiian Islands. We hope that your stay in the islands is memorable in every way imaginable. Furthermore, we wish each and every crew, paddler, club and supporter our fondest Aloha and Mahalo while you are here.
For our kama'aina, we welcome you back once again to this event. All of you combined are what makes our event so successful and the most prestigious canoe race in the world. We look forward to another successful event because of your continued support and cooperation!!
All coaches and paddlers are responsible to know the 2017 Hawaiian Airlines Moloka'i Hoe Race Rules. Please review them as there are a few changes from last year. Non-compliance with the Race Rules will result in penalty, crew disqualification and / or exclusion from future races dependent on severity as judged by the Race Director.
In preparation for the registration process, we kindly remind you to please have your paddlers complete the HCRA Waiver (for non-HCRA member paddlers including support staff, i.e. Escort Boat Captain, Deck Hands / Helpers, Coaches), Promotional Rights Waiver & Agreement - Form MH002, and Dock Liability & Hold Harmless Agreement - Form MH003 available on the internet via the registration website ahead of time to help expedite the registration process.
When coming to our official "In-Person" Registration Night at the Outrigger Canoe Club, we kindly remind you to bring all required documentation to expedite the registration process. For clubs from outside of Hawai'i, please bring documentation from your paddling association proving that your club and paddlers are covered by its insurance policy (i.e. Association COI w/ club and paddler's names). If this cannot be done, the alternative is to be covered by our HCRA Insurance Policy. To do this, the HCRA Waiver must be signed (paddler, coach, helper etc...) and there is a cost of $15 per person to be covered for the 2017 Hawaiian Airlines Moloka'i Hoe. Insurance coverage is non-negotiable for this event and if you are in need of insurance coverage for your crew members, please select the number of paddlers / staff who need additional insurance under the payment option for your crew.
All Paddlers will be need to be wrist-banded. Paddlers can be wrist-banded on Moloka'i ONLY and this can be done at Paddlers' Inn during registration hours. If your team is not able to make it to registration at Paddlers' Inn, you may also get wrist-banded at the Coaches Meeting. Any paddler found without a wristband on the water will jeopardize the team's standing and may be grounds for a disqualification. If your wristband breaks or comes off for some reason, you will need to bring the wristband back to a race official to receive a new wristband.
For those that will not be able to join us for the festivities, we encourage you to watch live TV coverage (Spectrum OC16) as well as live computer internet streaming on our home page beginning at 8:00am. (www.molokaihoe.com)
Please join us at the event Finish Line, there will be a huge event tent with TV monitors available for everyone to enjoy the live action of the crews on the water. Be the first to greet the crews as they come across the finish line. Hawaiian Airlines also has a very nice line-up of entertainment for all to enjoy. Please share this information with any and all paddling supporters.
For your information, the Heli-Pad Area adjacent to the Hilton Hawaiian Village Lagoon will be closed. Please come early to enjoy the event. Carpooling is highly encouraged.
The 2017 Hawaiian Airlines Moloka'i Hoe Committee would also like to share some updates with all of you for your information and planning purposes. Please see the Race Schedule for important information concerning the events leading up to race day!!!
If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact myself or any committee member at email@example.com. Once again, we are grateful for all of the continued support and cooperation by you and your all.
Best of luck in tackling the Kaiwi Channel and may you be safe and show great sportsmanship on the water.
